To think that director Costa Gavras (Z) could make such an average film in the company of actors like Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta is a sad indictment on the lack of artistry in comtemporary Hollywood.Kind of like an American Mr Reliable, Mad City centres on a heist by a disgruntled museum employee (Travolta doing white trash) which is captured by a TV reporter (Hoffman) who just happens to be in the museum as the time.Grand themes of unemployment and media manipulation don’t rise above a whimper.Also stars Mia Kershner, Blythe Danner and Alan Alda.
